Updates On The Lagos-Ibadan Railway Line (Photos)

1.  The Federal Government of Nigeria is building a standard gauge rail line linking Lagos and Ibadan. It is part of President Buharis vision to connect all 36 States in Nigeria by Rail.

2. The 158km double-track line starts from the Apapa Port, Nigeria’s busiest, and ends in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State.

It has ten stations in total: Apapa Port, Lagos, Agege, Agbado, Kajola, Papalanto, Abeokuta, Olodo, Omi Adio and Ibadan.

3/ The project is part of the Lagos-Kano Rail Line that will form the Western Section of Nigerias National Standard Gauge Rail Network.

Negotiations for the funding of the project kicked off following President Buhari’s State Visit to China in 2016.

4. The construction was flagged off by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in March 2017. Track-laying commenced in 2018. An average of 2km of track are being laid per day.

5. The scheduled completion date for the project is December 2018 / Q1 2019. The Train Service will run at speeds of between 120 and 150 km/hour.

6. The Project is providing employment to thousands of Nigerians. Upon completion, work will commence on the Kano-Kaduna leg of the Western Line.

7. And then the Ibadan-Kaduna leg, to complete the Western Line.

Future Lines include the Eastern (Port Harcourt – Maiduguri), Central Line (Abuja-Warri) and Coastal Line (Lagos- Calabar).
